FFmpeg 0.6 Has Support for VP8, WebM, HTML5

Dubbed "Works with HTML5," the brand-new release of FFmpeg brings lots of highly anticipated features. Announced last evening, June 15th, FFmpeg 0.6 improves the support for HTML5 video, has a better Vorbis decoder, and faster Theora and H.264 decoders. The most important feature of this release is the support for Google's VP8 codec. Moreover, the matroska demuxer has been updated to support the WebM container.

"A bit longer than actually expected, but finally, we are proud to announce a new release: FFmpeg 0.6. Check out the release notes and changelog. It is codenamed 'Works with HTML5' as the special focus on this release were a lot of improvements that are relevant for HTML5 video. The H.264 and Theora decoders are now significantly faster and the Vorbis decoder has seen important updates. This release supports Google's newly released libvpx library for the VP8 codec and the matroska demuxer was extended to support to WebM container. This release includes again an extensive number of changes." - was stated in the official release announcement.

· Support for VP8 codec, via libvpx;

· Faster H.264 decoding;
· Faster Theora decoding;
· Faster AAC decoding;
· Lots of ARM optimizations;
· Improved Vorbis decoder;
· Support for WebM container in the matroska demuxer;
· Support for the following decoders: AMR-NB, Atrac1, HE-AAC v1, Bink, Bluray (PGS) subtitle, MPEG-4 Audio Lossless Coding (ALS), WMA Pro, WMA Voice;
· Support for the following muxers and demuxers: WebM support in Matroska de/muxer, SoX native format, Adobe Filmstrip;
· Support for the following demuxers: Bink, Core Audio Format demuxer, Dirac in Ogg, IV8, QCP, VQF, Wave64;
· Support for the following muxers: IEC-61937 and RTSP;
· Support for RTP packetization in AMR and H.263;
· Support for RTP depacketization in AMR, H.263, ASF, Vorbis and Theora;
· Support for the RTMP/RTMPT/RTMPS/RTMPE/RTMPTE protocol via librtmp;
· New ffprobe utility;
· Added VorbisComment writing for Ogg FLAC, Ogg Speex and FLAC files.

FFmpeg is a cross-platform and complete solution to convert, encode, decode, record and stream audio and video files. The project also includes the libavcodec library - leading audio/video codec.
