Aeria Games announced that FEAR Online will be released on Steam for PC on October 17, allowing fans of the horror franchise to engage in new adventures set in the FEAR universe.

The publisher will also host an open beta ahead of the launch on Steam, making the game available through the Aeria Games portal starting on October 8.

"We are excited to introduce F.E.A.R. Online to millions of PC gamers with the launch on the Steam platform. Taking player feedback to heart, our team has redesigned elements of the game that are most important to players to deliver an experience that we hope will please the vast and dedicated fan base of the F.E.A.R. series," Aeria Games Chief Executive Officer Pascal Zuta stated.

The celebrated first-person horror shooter video game was considered one of the most engaging and thrilling games in the genre since Valve's original Half-Life at launch, and now Aeria Games wants to enable players to revisit some of the experiences that won the game its spot in the shooter hall of fame.

A vastly improved experience

Long-standing fans of the franchise will find new, terrifying experiences waiting for them in the upcoming first-person shooter, with the recent closed beta being instrumental in the streamlining of the game's systems.

Players familiar with the game will discover new maps, a new scenario and an overhauled crafting system, permitting players to create one-of-a-kind weapons, as well as a host of general improvements and redesigned systems.

FEAR Online follows the First Encounter Assault Recon task force's investigation of the Armacham Technology Corporation, uncovering a huge amount of unsettling experiments conducted by the company.

The upcoming shooter features over ten ominous maps and a variety of team combat modes, including cooperative scenarios that offer a glimpse of the terrifying truths behind the corporation's chilling experiments.

In addition to offering an engaging single-player experience, FEAR Online enables up to four players to team up and form a fireteam, fighting for their lives against the Armacham personnel and the monsters lurking around every corner.

The story will take place parallel to the events of FEAR 2: Project Origin, and aims to offer the same kind of gripping experience that the original entranced its fans with.

The free-to-play game will be available for all those interested in taking it for a spin starting October 17, on Steam. If you want to find out more about the game, you can visit the FEAR Online official website.
