After almost a year from the official launching of the BenQ Siemens AF51, the people at FCC have finally approved it. This is a handset meant to be offering value for money, so you won't get anything special, on top of common functionality, when buying it.

The AF51 is a tri-band EGSM (GSM phase2/phase 2+) handset, working on 900, 1800 and 1900 Mhz networks, with two 65k color CSTN displays, a 130x130 pixels internal one and an external 96x64 pixels. It also features a 4-way navigation key, PC-Synchronization with Mobile Phone Manager, 32 chord polyphonic MIDI, SP MIDI and WAV ringtones, GPRS modem assistant so you can use it as a data modem for your laptop, WAP/xHTML browser and J2ME support for games and applications, all in a package of 80 grams.

In one word, this is an entry-level mobile phone that knows to keep its word, and delivers exactly what it says: functionality without any dangles like an mp3 player or a digital camera.

The AF51 will hit the stores in Panther Black and Dolphin Grey suits, at a date and price unknown yet.
