A couple of weeks ago, more information regarding the Nokia E61i appeared and everyone knew that a FCC approval was to be expected.

Recently, the mobile phone was finally approved by the Federal Communication Commission and it looks like it will be heading towards the U.S. pretty soon.

The full-QWERTY keypad mobile phone was designed with business customers in mind, being slim, rather stylish and functional at the same time. It comes with quad-band GSM, UMTS / EDGE / GPRS support and is actually an upgraded version of the E61, bringing several extra features.

Just as previously mentioned, Nokia has in fact incorporated WLAN module and the phone is said to come with a QVGA resolution screen, MicroSD card slot for memory expansion and a 2 megapixel camera.

The design has suffered somewhat of a change compared to the E61, the E61i's shortcut buttons having been rearranged.

The joystick featured in the E61 has also been replaced with a 5-way navigation key, probably because most users seem to find joysticks very inconvenient.

Among the E-series phones that target business users, the Nokia E61i will come with pre-installed office applications for document viewing and editing. Just as expected, the mobile phone will run Symbian S60.

Now that the Nokia E61i has been approved, chances are that it may be officially launched at the upcoming GSM event in February, but we can only wait to find out if Nokia will in fact release the phone then.

One way or the other, it won't be long before this mobile phone starts shipping. There is no information regarding the price at the moment.
