Beware of lottery, extortion, phishing and inheritance schemes

Director Robert Muller, agents and officials that work for the FBI will never send you emails. They will not threaten you, they will not try to blackmail you, they will not inform you that you’ve won a lottery, and they will certainly never notify you that you’ve inherited a fortune.

The law enforcement agency has issued an Internet alert to warn users after a number of individuals have reported receiving emails from FBI Director Robert S. Mueller and other officials.

The phony messages are well designed, containing official pictures and logos that make them more legitimate-looking.

In some variants, the sender claims that he works at one of the FBI’s offices from overseas.

However, in most cases, the scammers will try to intimidate the victims to convince them to hand over money or personal information that can later be used in other malicious operations.

If you receive an email that fits any of these scenarios, be sure to ignore it.
