Excessive attention to Scientology is tearing Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise apart, report claims

A short while ago, a lengthy piece in The New Yorker on Scientology, based on the first-hand experience of former member Paul Haggis, came out. The cult has always prompted mixed reactions from the audience but now, the exposure it’s getting is putting a strain on the marriage of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

Both Star magazine and the National Enquirer are running stories claiming that the two are having issues at home because of the kind of attention the Church of Scientology is getting and, above all, because of an ongoing FBI investigation.

Pictures of the two on recent dates show them weary, exhausted and clearly more distant than ever before, choosing to interact more with their daughter Suri than with each other, it is being said.

Star claims the FBI probe will be the last nail in the coffin of the two A-listers’ marriage (story via here).

“FBI Probe: Tearing Tom & Katie Apart!” screams the headline on the cover of the latest print issue of the weekly, which also comes with a pic of the two stars frowning (for whatever reason) and looking rather unhappy about something.

“A shocking expose has turned the microscope on Scientology – and its most famous members, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Now the FBI is involved. Will their marriage survive the stress?” Star asks.

It also offers an answer in the negative while trying to pretend like it’s not – by referring to the aforementioned paparazzi shots that have emerged online these past few days.

“With her head in her hands, staring glumly out at the crowded restaurant, Katie Holmes looked like she had a lot on her mind during a Feb. 7 dinner with hubby Tom Cruise,” says Star.

“While he played and chatted with daughter Suri, Katie was left alone with her thoughts – and it didn’t appear that they were happy ones. Indeed, sources say that a blockbuster new Scientology expose has sent Katie reeling and driven a wedge between her and Tom,” the mag further writes.

As anyone who’s ever picked up a celebrity magazine must already know by now, Tom and Katie have been plagued by breakup rumors even before they got married – so it could be that there’s no truth to this one either.

As a side note, Scientology has denied it’s being investigated by the FBI on claims of human trafficking. In fact, a rep has denied Haggis’ entire story on the things that happen behind closed doors in all Scientology locations.

we have freedom of expression under the constitution. What does the F.B.I. want? A North Korean style dictatorship? Scientology is merely another way of looking at things. Another thing about the F.B.I. J. Edgar Hoover was a transvestite. Naturally the F.B.I. headquarters is named after this pervert. I am a free American. Jefferson said, "The tree of liberty is waterd with the blood of tyrants".

There is no basis to this article at all. "Looking tired" and talking to Suri is hardly any proof that their marriage is "falling apart." Could we please stop acting as pseudo-psychic experts on Hollywood marriages and let them live their lives?

Furthermore, AOL article at http://www.aolnews.com/2011/02/07/church-of-scientology-faces-controversy-over-latest-abuse-allega/"indicates that "However, a federal law enforcement source told AOL News the investigation has fallen short and no criminal charges are expected to be filed."

I wrote about this in my book “Hollywood, Satanism, Scientology, and Suicide,” which was published in February of 2009. The fact that money from various non-profit Scientology organizations and labor provided by various non-profit Scientology organizations are used for the personal benefit of David Miscavige, Tom Cruise, other Scientology senior executives, and other Scientology celebrities (such as John Travolta, Chick Corea, and Priscilla Presley) was first revealed in an affidavit to Los Angeles lawyers by Andre Tabayoyon, a Scientologist for 21 years.

I know that Star and National Enquirer are the "best" source of getting at the truth! Give me a break.

I don't usually agree with tabloids but I do enjoy looking. I never usually take anything that they say to heart, because I always have this image of a large group of gossipers sitting around a table making things up, like "the insider" on the story and what "the friend", which I usually believe to be imaginary, said. It is horrifying to me that one of my favorite actors chose a religion that has been time and time again labeled a cult over his career and from the looks of it, a stable, loving family.
