Way to go, Feds!

The Federal Bureau of Information has a growing interest in cyber-crime, and this does not surprise me at all, since the US has been the first to show a greater concern with cyber-security. What can I say? This is great, because knowing the Feds could be on their tracks, I guess that hackers will be somewhat discouraged. The FBI has recently put Saad Echouafani on their "Most Wanted" list.

He did not commit any crimes on the web; not himself, but had others do it for him - he had paid some hackers to take down a site of a television company, the Weakness web page. In any case, he has escaped the long arm of the law till now, but since they have put him on that list, it means that the matter will be treated seriously and he will get caught soon.

Further more, this was not just apprehending some newbie hacker that downed a site, as his "employees" also meddled with Amazon and the site belonging to the Department of Homeland Security, causing a total damage of around $ 2 million, as The Washington Post informs. This was part of a huge operation initiated and sustained by the FBI, that involved another 150 culprits (wow!). It was called "Operation Cyberslam" - suggestive, isn't it?

According to the same site I mentioned above, things are only starting to get serious, and such actions are just at the beginning. A lot of people are being investigated and prosecuted for computer crimes and the Feds are getting better at this "business" so we'll surely see more of it. Cyber-crooks behind bars! Way to go FBI! Maybe law enforcers in more countries will take their example!

The US is the home of spam... maybe these new measures will stop the evolution of cyber-crime in the States, and therefore, around the world.
