Codemasters has officially announced the upcoming entry in its high-speed racing series, F1 2014, but the bad news is that the game will not be heading to the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles.

The company has announced that the racing game will only be released on last-gen systems, corroborating the rumors regarding this, and the listings on both Amazon France as well as Amazon Spain, with only PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 specified as launch platforms.

This wouldn't be the first instance of a Codemasters game skipping the release on next-gen, as Grid Autosports was also released for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms just last month.

Codemasters talked about bringing the upcoming racing game to next-gen last year, mentioning that they planned to make use of the raw power of the next-generation consoles in order to achieve the most realistic visuals possible, achieving a level of immersive realism that would enhance the driving and impact of the F1 2014 experience on players.

But that is because it is also working on a next-gen Formula 1 game at the moment, due out sometime in 2015. The game is set to launch earlier in the Formula One season, and will then receive several live digital updates, delivering all the content in the 2015 season to the game as the action unfolds, making sure that players will be competing against the same drivers and teams they watch on TV.

Now, back to the last-gen one. F1 2014 features all the changes in the sport this year, including the new turbocharged cars, new circuits, as well as all the river moves.

The upcoming racing game also includes more refined handling on a gamepad, as well as a new driver evaluation systems that fine-tunes the game's difficulty according to the player's skill in order to increase the title's accessibility to newcomers, while providing the same challenging experience to veterans of the sport.

The game's scenario mode has been expanded, and Codemasters has refined the career mode options in order to reflect the changes in the real world.

"There's been a dramatic shift in the sport; the largest shake up in the rules and regulations for a very long time and the new power units provide a very different kind of challenge, for both driver and team. By delivering all of these changes, F1 2014 will make for an exciting and refreshingly different experience."

"Additionally, with the new driver evaluation system analyzing each player's skill level and suggesting appropriate game settings, plus re-graded difficulty levels including a brand new Very Easy setting, we aim to deliver a thoroughly rewarding F1 experience for players of all abilities, from the novice to the seasoned pro," Codemasters' Stephen Hood says.

F1 2014 is coming out on October 17 in Europe, and October 21 in North America, for the PC, PlayStation 3 console from Sony, and Xbox 360 computer entertainment system from Microsoft.
