Just as the real world Formula 1 season is getting under way, the development team working on the F1 2012 simulation at Codemasters has announced that the video game will be launched on the PC, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 from Sony during September.

The game will continue to be created in partnership with Formula One World Championship Limited, which means that it will include official representations of all the tracks, the teams and the plots that are part of the real world competition.

In order to mark the announcement of F1 2012 and show gamers some early information about what they can expect from the game, the developers have travelled to the Yas Marina Circuit, where the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is run, in order to talk to some of the young drivers who are part of team setups.

Stephen Hood, the creative director working on F1 2012 at Codemasters, is featured in a video that compares the virtual and the real racing space and that features young drivers talking about their own experience with the series.

Sam Bird, one of the pilots testing for Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team, stated, “I think Codemasters have done a super job of giving regular people a proper insight into what a FORMULA ONE car is like.”

Stefano Coletti, from Scuderia Toro Rosso, added, “When I came to Abu Dhabi I couldn’t go to the simulator so I switched on the videogame and started to play. It actually worked because when I got here I felt like I’d already driven. It was my first race in GP2, first ever time in GP2, and I won in my first race so it actually helped.”

In F1 2012 the Young Driver Test game mode will act as a sort of tutorial feature, allowing gamers to learn the best way to drive the powerful vehicles and extract performance out of them.
