A Norwegian woman using her iPhone in sub-zero conditions allegedly picked up the handset to find that it had exploded in the cold.

As reported by the Swedish blog ‘Feber’ citing di.se, the Norwegian woman was using her iPhone 4 in her car at the time.

She was reportedly playing music when, all of the sudden, the phone exploded.

Apparently, she took the device to an Apple Store where the Genius bar refused to offer free servicing on it, claiming that the Apple iPhone 4 was not designed to withstand temperatures below freezing or above 35 degrees Celsius.

Indeed, the iPhone’s operating system pre-loaded with a safety warning when the device senses that it’s getting too hot to operate at normal parameters.

However, it does not have a “too cold” warning for the blistering Scandinavian winters, or any other winter for that matter.

Instead, this tidbit is only mentioned in the fine print of the iPhone’s Warranty papers.

Also, Apple's Limited Warranty for iPhone is known to excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications.

If defects arise as a result of service, the Cupertino giant will cover the repair for the remaining term of the iPhone's warranty or 90 days after iPhone service, whichever provides longer coverage for the customer.

Apple offers two service options for iPhones that are not eligible for warranty service: Battery Replacement Service, and Out-of-Warranty Service which comes at a cost depending on each situation.

If true, this may turn out bad for Apple, whose iPhone 4 has been surrounded by controversy since day one.
