Extreme AI in Splinter Cell Double Agent

SpirOps and Ubisoft multiplayer mode collaboration

As Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent was released just a few days ago, Ubisoft already decided to improve it. I don't know... did they receive any complaints?

As a result of a partnership between SpirOps and Ubisoft, the AI opponents in Splinter
Cell: Double Agent will have realistic behavior (they all say that-what is realistic behavior in fact?). Nevertheless, the AI in Splinter Cell: Double Agent will be powered by SpirOps through the Drive Oriented engine.

This engine supposedly will allow virtual characters to have a mind of their own, and they will be able to take independent decisions for them to live better and longer in their virtual world. The characters will adapt to the players' actions in order to evolve and survive. Aren't these characters programmed by game developers to do that and the other? Aren't their actions limited and restrained? According to the presentation of Drive Oriented, they will act on their own. Not likely. Maybe they will have a larger set of moves and they will be able to make some decisions in the game that will seem independent but to go as far as to say "learn independently how to live better and longer" is too much.

This is also the first time that any installment in the Splinter Cell series features bots in the multiplayer mode. The Spy versus Mercenaries mode will allow players to fight each other or to fight against bots powered by Drive Oriented.
