In case you're wondering what's with that 'extra large' inside the title, well this is exactly how the new Google Image Search function is named. Until now, you were able to search only for small images, medium images and large images. But, from now on, you can find impressive photos using the extra large image search ability which helps you find huge pictures.

For example, search for extra large photos using the term 'softpedia' returns me 1920 x 1440 and even 3000 x 3000 imagery. The function is displayed straight on the Image Search SERP, under the search box. Philipp Lenssen from Google Blogoscoped sustains that Google defined the small dimensions as the ones under 51 x 51 while the ones above 1024 x 768 were rated as large. The imagery with dimensions between these ones were included in the medium category.

Google Image Search has an interesting update evolution because the Mountain View company was continuously focused on it and, even if it rolled out some important updates, it was forced to revert them. For example, Google worked on an interface improvement which was officially debuted earlier this year but, due to the consumers' complaints who demanded the old interface back, the Mountain View company canceled the interface update.

Moreover, the super giant prepared something pretty revolutionary: the implementation of a face-recognition technology which would allow the consumers to find more relevant results. Until then, the fans of the technology are able to give their support for Google Image Search by joining Labeler, a product which connects two users and requires them to write down the description of certain images.

"Google Image Labeler is a new feature of Google Image Search that allows you to label random images to help improve the quality of Google's image search results," Google wrote on the official page of the product.
