Arne Exton had the pleasure of informing Softpedia about the immediate availability for download of a new build for his Exton|OS MATE operating system, this time based on the recently released Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 (Jessie) and Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) operating systems.

Powered by a custom 3.19.0-14-exton kernel, based on one of the latest versions of the upstream Linux 3.19 kernel, the new Exton|OS MATE update upgrades all included packages to their latest available versions as of April 28, 2015.

"Yesterday I made a new version of Exton|OS Mate Edition. Exton|OS build 150428 is based on Ubuntu 15.04 64 bit (released April 23, 2015) and Debian Jessie (Debian 8)," says Arne Exton. "All packages have been upgraded latest available version as at April 28, 2015. I have replaced kernel 3.19.0-5-exton with kernel 3.19.0-14-exton."

One of the first distributions based on Ubuntu 15.04

In other words, Exton|OS MATE is now among the first distributions to be based on Canonical's brand-new Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) operating system, as well as the recently announced Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 (Jessie) OS.

Built around the MATE 1.8.1 desktop environment, Exton|OS MATE build 150428 offers a modern computer operating system for desktops and laptops. The MATE user interface has been customized with a panel (taskbar) located on the upper side of the screen and a dock (application launcher) located on the bottom edge of the screen.

The MATE edition of Exton|OS offers a great selection of open-source applications, among which we can mention Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome web browsers, GIMP image editor, VLC Media Player multimedia playback software, Geary email client, and Shotwell image viewer and organizer.

Download Exton|OS MATE build 150428 right now from Softpedia. Please keep in mind that the distribution is available for download as a 64-bit Live DVD, which means that you can only use it on modern, 64-bit machines.
