The optical disk drives somehow manage with just the energy of a USB port

External / portable optical disk drives aren't as many or varied as SSDs and HDDs, but they aren't exactly sparse either.

After all, not only do they get released more or less often, but they also usually come out in several color options.

In this case, Buffalo has released the BRXL-PC6VU2-C line of portable Blu-ray writers, colored white, silver, red and black.

That's right, the unit can actually read 4-.layer and 3-layer 128 GB and 100 GB Blu-ray disks, and write them too, at 4X.

Double-layer disks go at 6X, and the speed rises the older the format gets (DVD, CD and subtypes).

For devices that manage to work on just the electricity of one USB connection, that's not too shabby.

The Buffalo BDXL portable writers have a price of 10,920 JPY / $112 / €84. Sales will begin this September in Japan.
