Linksys, now a division of networking equipment manufacturer Cisco, announced the launch of a new range of products aimed not at the enterprise or business market segments, but at the general consumer who wishes to create or expand a home network based on wireless technology.

The RangePlus product family is the newest line of networking solutions from Linksys and it was designed to be an affordable line while containing all necessary tools and hardware components needed to build or extend a wireless home network. This new Linksys line of products is made of the following
components: RangePlus Wireless Router (WRT100), RangePlus Wireless Notebook Adapter (WPC100), RangePlus Wireless PCI Adapter (WMP100) and the RangePlus Wireless USB Notebook Adapter (WUSB100).

This new Linksys line is based on the Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO for short) technology in order to provide its users with extended wireless coverage and it unitizes signal reflections on different obstacles and objects as a means to increase the network reach while reducing the extent of the dead spots, places with poor quality signal.

''Until now, consumers who were seeking to increase the range of their wireless networks were required to use proprietary solutions that could not be used with other technologies or pay a substantial premium for products designed to do much more than they needed,'' said Mani Dhillon, director, product marketing, Linksys Consumer Business Organization. ''With the launch of RangePlus, Linksys now has a full line of wireless networking options that allow the consumer to choose the solution that best meets both their desires and their budget, without sacrificing on either front.''

The heart of this product line is the RangePlus Wireless Router, codenamed WRT100 that can work with other Linksys made wireless adapters based on the PCI or USB interfaces, while at the same time supporting most widely available wireless network adapters that are in use today. A software application, the Linksys Easy Link Advisor, is shipped together with this wireless router and it was designed to provide users with easy installing tips, network management tools and specialized wizards in order to help even novice users to set up a wireless network in just a few steps.

The entire RangePlus Linksys made wireless networking line of products will soon be available through retail channel dealers and average selling prices of $99.99, while the wireless router and notebook adapter are available now from select dealers.
