Access EXT2 and EXT3 drives straight from Windows 8

If you're using a dual-boot system running both Windows 8 and Ubuntu, you sure know that it's a pain in the neck to access Linux drives from Windows, as the operating system cannot recognize this particular format.

That's no longer valid with ExtFsd 0.52, a new version of the application that was launched last month and comes to help Windows 8 users to quickly access EXT2 and EXT3 drives.

The new version brings not only Windows 8 compatibility, but also force-writing support, while also fixing a number of bugs, such as BSOD experienced due to an error in the pageable code section.

Problems causing files to become invisible with empty hidden patterns and a possible hang with concurrent access attempts on the same file have also been fixed in this build, the developing team said.

Right now, the application works on basically all Windows versions currently on the market, starting with the old Windows XP and ending with the newly-launched Windows 8.1 Update. It still lacks full EXT3 journal and EXT3 extent support, but more such features could be added in future releases.

Overall, this is clearly a helpful solution for users who are planning to manage files stored on Linux drives from Windows 8, so download Ext2Fsd 0.52 right now to see what it brings new.
