Apple says the forums are online, but the service is actually down

Apple has been having some iCloud troubles again this week, and this time around the outage has affected both regular customers and iOS 7 testers.

Various online services, such as the iOS and Mac App Stores, iTunes, and the iBookstore have seen outages spanning several hours. FaceTime users are also reporting connectivity issues.

Developers are in the same boat. Although the Apple Dev Center is separate from the services offered to end users, the portal’s online tools are rooted through the same iCloud service.

And iCloud is acting up at the moment, causing frustration for those developers who are stuck with an expired iOS 7 beta.

A developer whose beta is no longer usable on his iPad 2 is using Apple Support Communities trying desperately to get an answer on how he can restore functionality to the tablet.

The forum members – who are aware of Apple’s rules against discussing pre-release software outside developer circles – are fending off his questions like malaria.

The developer reveals from the get-go that Apple Support Communities was his last resort, since Apple’s Developer Forums were down, even though the company’s System Status page says the dev forums are in working condition.

When a user clicks on the Apple Developer Forums link (at the time of this post), the Cupertino giant redirects them to the maintenance page which holds an apologetic message, along with the mentioning that Apple is continuing to repair the damage left in the wake of a recent server breach.

Perhaps what’s more annoying for developers with troubleshooting questions is that Apple claims (emphasis ours) that “the majority of our developer services are currently online, including Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles, Dev Centers, software downloads, Videos, Apple Developer Forums, iTunes Connect, Bug Reporter, App Store Resource Center and access to pre-release documentation.”

For those of you who need immediate assistance, Apple also has this contact page where you can reach them with any questions you may have.
