Sony Ericsson's upcoming Xperia X3 smartphone, the third in line in the phone maker's Xperia series, is rumored to come to the market sometime in January next year. The handset, which was spotted in the wild a while ago under the name of Rachael, is the first device the company will be launching on the market powered by Google's Android operating system, and should follow the launch of Xperia X2, which has been reported to occur before the holidays season.

However, for the time being the January launch of Xperia X3, which mobilecrunch points at, is only a rumor, though we should remind you that the phone has already been spotted listed for pre-order on Expansys' website a while ago. The upcoming Sony Ericsson Android phone should deliver quite a few goodies to those who will choose to purchase it, including an 800 x 400 touchscreen display, as well as an 8.0-megapixel photo snapper with LED Flash, auto focus and video recording capabilities.

According to the news on the Internet, the Xperia X3 will also boast a custom Android UI from its maker, as well as 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi capabilities, built-in GPS receiver, Bluetooth functionality, a 3.5mm headset jack, miniUSB, a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space to be added into the equation, e-mail support (including POP3, SMTP, IMAP4 and Microsoft Exchange), MMS, instant messaging, music player, as well as a wide range of Google services.

Sony Ericsson hasn't said anything officially on the upcoming Xperia X3, though it might not be too long before the company decides to unveil it officially to the world. Based on the rumored specs, the handset should prove a quite attractive Android-based phone, which might also drive its price tag to be a little higher than that of other available solutions. However, we hope it won't be priced as high as or higher than X2, which has been reported recently to sport a price tag of around $880.
