Trade-in firm sees 171% spike in MacBook trades days ahead of the iconic event

Gazelle, one of the many US-based trade-in firms which gives you money for old hardware, has seen a 171% uptick in MacBook trade-ins days ahead of WWDC 2013, where new Macs are expected to launch.

Amid rumors of Apple refreshing its entire MacBook lineup at next week’s developer event, people are giving away their MacBooks to fetch some easy cash which they can then use to buy a new laptop.

All they need now is for Apple to confirm the rumors and release those beefed-up notebooks with Intel’s Haswell processors and 5G Wi-Fi. Imagine what would happen if no Macs launched at WWDC.

Jokes aside, here’s what Gazelle has to say on this topic.

“Gazelle saw a 35% week-over-week jump in laptops traded in,” the company said. “When compared to the same week before WWDC last year, this represents a 171% increase in MacBook trades, which can be most likely attributed to consumer anticipation of a new fleet of MacBooks next week at WWDC.”
