Players try to score a goal while driving motorcycles

Football, or soccer, is without a doubt the world's most popular sport and, as such, has spawned a number of different variations, one of which is called Motoball, or Motorcycle Football.

As its name suggests, Motoball is a sport that combines motorcycle riding and football. It's very similar to the original sport, but all players, except goalkeepers, are not just running around the field on foot, but riding motorcycles, and the ball is much bigger and heavier.

Despite its roots, this peculiar variation of soccer is relatively unknown. However, it is largely played in Europe, where many countries even have national teams.

Motoball matches are played on a field the same size as a soccer field. Each team includes five players, four on bikes and one goalie who doesn't ride a motorcycle, but still wears a helmet.

According to Oddity Central, the concept is quite simple: the players attempt to score a goal while driving motorcycles. They kick the large ball and do whatever they can to get it into the net. There don’t seem to be many rules to the game.

Motorcycle Football first began officially in the mid-1930s, and currently has many supporters in Russia, Germany, Lithuania, Belarus, and Ukraine. In Kretinga, Lithuania, for instance, the motoball matches attendance surpasses that of local basketball and football matches.

If you ask me, Motoball is a rather exotic team sport and seems more like a harrowing version of soccer, mostly due to the dangerous stunts players perform on their motorcycles. Riding a motorcycle is tricky enough for many people, so doing it while dribbling, passing, and shooting a football seems even more difficult.
