Presently, over 50% of boys and more than 70% of girls in the United States fail to exercise as much as they should in order to stay healthy.

Since outdoor activities seem to have lost their appeal, specialists are now looking into the possibility of using exergaming (i.e. a form of gaming that requires players to move their bodies) as a means of fighting childhood obesity.

By asking a total of 15 children to take part in high intensity exergaming for 15 minutes in a row, a team of researchers has learned that such activities increased heart rate.

Furthermore, they caused the kids to burn as much energy as they would have were they to engage in moderate intensity exercise.

“Higher intensity exergaming may be a good form of activity for children to use to gain long-term and sustained health benefits,” Dr. Louis Naylor reportedly said.
