On the downside, it takes about 4 months before this treatment starts to work

Specialists writing in today's issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine maintain that people suffering from insomnia are likely to start feeling better and get some much needed sleep should they agree to take up regular exercise.

Long story short, these researchers claim that, according to their investigations, physical exercise can indeed prove an effective treatment option and even cure for insomnia.

On the downside, it appears that insomniacs need to regularly exercise for about four months before they actually experience an improvement in their condition.

“If you have insomnia you won't exercise yourself into sleep right away. It's a long-term relationship. You have to keep at it and not get discouraged,” study author Kelly Glazer Baron summed up his and his colleagues' findings, as cited by EurekAlert.

“Rather than medications, which can induce sleep quickly, exercise may be a healthier way to improve sleep because it could address the underlying problem,” researcher Phyllis Zee wished to stress.
