Though season 5 didn’t end in such a shocking manner as the previous one did, fans can hardly wait to see what new episodes from “Dexter” will bring in the way of their favorite killer inthe new season. Executive producer Sara Colleton has all the answers.

In a recent interview with TV Guide, Colleton took the most frequently asked questions about Dexter and tried to provide an answer to each and every one without, of course, ruining the experience for loyal fans.

The first thing on the list is the rumored time jump that season 6 will make, which, it turns out, is true: there will be a gap between the two seasons, but only because it will allow the character to change and grow.

At the same time, the jump will not be too big because writers want to show how Dexter dealt with the confusion and mixed feelings he had about the events that occurred in previous episodes, namely Rita’s shocking death and Lumen’s departure.

“We thought a clean start to this season would be to jump ahead a year, so he’s not getting over Lumen [Julia Stiles], and he’s not still in the throes of dealing with the Rita [Julie Benz] thing,” Colleton explains.

“We wanted to jump ahead a year and find that Dexter has gotten his groove back. He’s gotten over Rita and Lumen,” the executive producer underlines.

In other words, Dexter will be getting off to a fresh start but, ironically enough, one that reminds of the earliest episodes, as the recent teaser (which you can also see below) also reveals.

“When we open up Season 6, we find Dexter in a very positive place in his life. It’s like the Dexter we know and love is back, and he still wants to play,” Colleton says.

That is not to say that Dexter’s life will be drama free, she underlines. On the contrary, being a serial killer and a father of a 2-year-old is never an easy thing and Dex will learn that on his own.

“There are things in life that Dexter’s dealing with and one of them is that Harrison is now 2 years old and he has to go to school. There are things that he has to start thinking about with his son, and he’s been keenly aware of what it is that he doesn’t want to pass on to Harrison, namely his Dark Passenger, but Dexter has no idea what it is that he does want to pass on,” Colleton says.

There’s also the issue of Dexter’s relationship with Deb, his sister, and whether she will ever find out about his nighttime “hobby” – but Colleton doesn’t want to commit with an answer for that.
