When American Idol returns for a new season, it will bring about plenty of changes – and not just in the judges’ lineup. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe has confirmed on Twitter he’s out of the show for good.

Fans must know that rumors of this started making the rounds weeks ago, right after Randy Jackson announced he was done.

“just had 10 days in the Bahamas, rain everyday. I get back to the States and get fired. Sad! Monday we choose our top 20. I'll smile again,” Nigel wrote on his official Twitter over the weekend.

As for the reason for his departure, he stated that “It's not a personal thing they just feel IDOL needs new leadership after 12 Seasons.”

So, Lythgoe and Jackson are out. Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj have also chosen not to come back for a second season, which only leaves Keith Urban on board the AI ship for the time being.
