The successor of the popular HTC Wildfire Android phone, the Wildfire S is now available from most North American carriers

Although the phone was unveiled back in May, US-based carrier Virgin Mobile introduced the device only last month.

Initially, the phone was available in four colors, black, silver, brown and lilac, but HTC has recently introduced the white version of the Wildfire S.

Customers who hurriedly purchased the silver color version exclusively available at Best Buy will probably be tempted to switch it for the white version which is now available at RadioShack.

The white HTC Wildfire S can be ordered from RadioShack starting today for only $199.99 (145 EUR) off-contract.

According to Virgin Mobile, besides the usual charger and headset, users will also receive a free 2GB microSD memory card in the sales package.

HTC Wildfire S is still popular among North American Android fans. The reason behind its success may be the fact that LG entry-level smartphones such as the Optimus One was not that attractive for the Americans.

A slightly upgraded Wildfire, the HTC Wildfire S runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform, unlike the original Wildfire that was delivered with the old Android 2.1 Eclair operating system.

Even though the smartphone comes with the latest mobile operating system available on the market, it will not receive any further upgrades due to its hardware configuration.

In this regard, the Wildfire S is powered by a 600 MHz Qulacomm MSM7227 processor, which is complemented by an Adreno 200 graphics processing unit.

The phone packs 512 MB of ROM, 512 MB of RAM (418 MB user-available), and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

In addition, it sports a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and video recording capabilities.

Virgin Mobile states that the phone's 1230 mAh Li-Ion battery provides up to 3.8 hours of talk time or up to 12 days of standby time.
