Microsoft is currently offering for download the System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) management pack designed to support the latest development milestone of Exchange Server 2010. The Exchange Server 2010 Management Pack (x86) Release Candidate bits went live on the Microsoft Download Center at the end of the past week and are up for grabs for admins that need an insight into the events associated with the next iteration of Exchange Server. Of course the Management Pack is insufficient by itself, as it is set up to bridge System Center Operations Manager with the successor of Exchange Server 2007.

“The Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 management pack is designed for monitoring Exchange Server 2010 events, collecting Exchange component-specific performance counters in one central location, and for raising alerts for operator intervention as necessary. You will need System Center Operations Manager 2007 to run and monitor Exchange Server 2010 with this management pack,” Microsoft explained.

Admins that will download the Exchange Server 2010 Management Pack (x86) Release Candidate will get an .MSI package weighing 5.3 MB. The Management Pack comes packaged as a self-extracting executable archive. After they run the file, administrators will need to import the management pack into System Center Operations Manager 2007 in order to start monitoring Exchange Server 2010 RC.

Last week Microsoft went live with the first public downloads of Exchange Server 2010 RC. The bits continue to be available for download at this point in time for customers looking to test drive the next version of Exchange. At the same time, the Redmond company is providing free training allowing users to easily familiarize themselves with the evolution of Exchange Server. Interested customers will be able to access Free Exchange Server 2010 training via the links included in this article.
