Microsoft has made available for download the new step in the evolution of Exchange Server 2007. Update Rollup 7 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 went live on March 18, 2009, and is currently up for grabs. The bits are already live on the Microsoft Download Center, and the Redmond company informed that it also planned to offer Update Rollup 7 through its updating infrastructure. In this context, the software giant informed that Update Rollup 7 for Exchange Server 2007 SP1 would go live on Windows Update on March 24.

“Yes, it has been only 5 weeks since we shipped the last update roll-up on February 10 and usually our gap between roll-ups is about eight weeks. Since the release of update roll-up 6, we have fixed about 50 issues and wanted to go ahead and provide them to customers,” revealed Ananth Ramanathan, from the Exchange Customer Experience team.

According to Microsoft, the short baking time of Update Rollup 7 was made possible because the refresh package did not need to go through the Security Update Validation Program (SUVP), a process necessary for the delivery of security updates. By contrast, Update Rollup 6 included Security Bulletin MS09-003 – Critical, which was designed to patch vulnerabilities in Exchange 2000 Server, Exchange Server 2003, Exchange Server 2007, and Exchange Server MAPI Client.

“First off, we fixed the SCR issues which have caused everyone some pain and which did not get completed in time to be included in the last update roll-up,” Ramanathan stated. “Network shares are deleted and created intermittently by the replication service on an Exchange SCC cluster when SCR is enabled on the Exchange server. We have also fixed two issues which caused intermittent crashes in the IMAP4 service and resulted in event 4999 being logged in the event logs.”

Microsoft stressed that deploying the Exchange Server 2007 SP1 Update Roll-up 7 would replace OWA script files. In this regard, the software giant advised customers who have customized logon.aspx or additional OWA pages to redo the work following the implementation of the update package.
