Microsoft's suite of applications tailored to students and alumni has been kicked up a notch with the addition of Exchange Labs. Microsoft Live@edu solutions designed to satisfy the complex needs of educational institutions, by
catalyzing mobile, desktop and web-based collaboration and communications, has grown with the addition of Microsoft Exchange Labs e-mail. According to the Redmond company, Exchange Labs will deliver an e-mail experience equivalent to the systems implemented in corporate environments, at least in terms of reliability and security.

"The way students use technology is constantly evolving. E-mail, social networking, IM and texting are now all part of their digital experience," explained Anna Kinney, group product manager for Microsoft Live@edu. "Universities want to adapt to these changing e-learning dynamics, and Microsoft Live@edu innovations help ensure they are prepared for that challenge."

Both University students and alumni will be able to benefit from the advantages offered by an Exchange Labs inbox. Exchange Labs for Live@edu enable users to enjoy hosted email services with no less than 10 GB of storage per inbox. Microsoft limits the attachment size to just 20 MB, and permits access not only through Outlook Web Access and Microsoft Office Outlook but also from mobile phones.

The Redmond company emphasized the strong role that Exchange Labs would play in correlation with Live@edu in order to spread institution identity, enable advanced collaboration and deliver an enhanced focus on security. Essentially, Live@edu is a combination of services and applications including Windows Live Hotmail, Microsoft Office Live Workspace and Windows Live SkyDrive.

"We are excited to partner with educators from around the world who are bringing the power of the Web to their campuses; Live@edu gets better year after year because of their input," added Bruce Gabrielle, senior product manager for Microsoft Live@edu.
