A new version of Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 3 Update Rollup 3 is now available to customers, Microsoft revealed.

The re-release of Exchange 2007 SP3 UP3 was considered necessary due to some issues that the previous variant of the update introduced.

The software giant confirmed that customers installing the initial release of Exchange 2007 SP3 UP3 could experience database corruption problems.

This is why the company took the decision to stop the distribution and remove the update altogether as of March 29.

“The Exchange Servicing team has fixed the reported issue with RU3 and is making available a new version of RU3 for our customers, version 08.03.159.002, (KB2530488),” revealed Kevin Allison, General Manager Exchange Customer Experience.

“We strongly advise all customers install this newly released version of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP3 Update Rollup 3 and to discard any prior version of RU3 (KB2492691) which you may have.”

Customers that did not deploy Update Rollup 3 for Exchange 2007 SP3 can go ahead and simply install version 08.03.159.002.

At this point in time the Redmond company did not indicate any issues that impact the re-released variant of Exchange 2007 SP3 UP3.

As far as customers that already installed RU3 in their Exchange environment are concerned, Allison also advised them to go right ahead and update.

“It is not necessary for you to uninstall the existing RU3 within your environment. The new RU3 package can be installed over the top of the existing package installed on your servers,” he stated.

Microsoft also apologized to customers that were negatively impacted by the initial version of RU3.

“We deeply regret the impact that these issues have had on our customers, and as always, we continue to identify ways to better serve your needs through our regular servicing releases.”
