Microsoft is offering a free guide for download to customers migrating to Excel 2010 from older versions of the Office suite component. “Migrating to Microsoft Excel 2010” is now available through the Microsoft Download Center, having been published at the start of this month. Customers can grab the guide and leverage it in order to make the migration process easier. The resource is designed to streamline the transition from older versions of Excel, including 2007 and 2003 to Excel 2010, which was released to manufacturing in April 2010, and made available to customers worldwide for purchase as of June.

"Microsoft Excel 2010 is a robust program that differs in both appearance and function from earlier versions. With the ECMA/ISO Office Open XML File Formats, Business Intelligence functionality, and enhanced visualization tools, the new Excel 2010 spreadsheet program provides a comprehensive set of tools that empowers users to create and format workbooks for analyzing and sharing information, leading to more informed decisions than ever before,” Microsoft explained.

In “Migrating to Microsoft Excel 2010” Microsoft explains the main differences in terms of functionality between Excel 2010 and its predecessors, while underlining the manner in which the evolution of the Office component could affect the way that customers deal with workbooks. At the same time, the company describes common issues that can arise during migration, providing the necessary solutions to ease the process as much as possible.

At the same time, the guide offers links to additional resources that can also help with migrations to Excel 2010. In this sense, the company put together a list with technical articles but also with compatibility resources, pointing customers to content and tools that will help them deal with eventual problems as they move to Excel 2010.

“While these changes are designed to improve the performance and experience of the program, there will be times when users encounter compatibility issues while working with workbooks that are created in different versions of Excel. Microsoft has developed special features to maximize compatibility and minimize any disruption to the workflow. Even so, the scope of change is significant, and users will encounter functional differences during migration,” the company added.
