ExTiX 10, a distribution based on the recently launched operating system from Canonical, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, has been officially released.

The developers of ExTiX have always experimented with various distributions, as they explain. Previous versions were based on other operating systems such as Knoppix/Debian, a Swiss version of Paldo, Debian Sid, and Ubuntu 11.10.

The main difference between Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and ExTiX 10 is the desktop environment. ExTiX 10 has ditched Unity in favor of GNOME 3.4 with GNOME Shell, and Razor-qt.

ExTiX 10 also comes with a variety of interesting applications, such as LibreOffice 3.5.3, AbiWord, Firefox 12.0, Opera, Thunderbird 12.0, Brasero, VLC 2.0.1, GIMP, Java, and many others.

A complete list of changes and features can be found in the official announcement.
