The original 'cop' from the popular '70s disco band, the Village People, was sentenced to three years on probation after charges of drug possession and illegal carrying of a loaded weapon were filed against him.
The judge gave him two choices: either he attends a six-month drug treatment or he will spend the next three years and eight months in jail. Obviously, both Victor Willis and his attorney opted for the first alternative.
Mark Geragos, the defense lawyer, said that, immediately after the release of his client from the San Mateo County jail (where he spent the past six months), he would enroll in a 30-day program at a clinic in Southern California and then submit himself to a 6-month treatment in Long Beach.

'Obviously we're gratified that Judge Forcum went out on a limb and gave him another chance. I think he sees Victor's enormous potential and senses that this is the first time he has at least what appears to be a genuine commitment to keeping his sobriety', Geragos said in a press statement, issued after the court hearing ended.
Victor Willis left the disco band in the '80s, but not before co-writing the hit singles 'Y.M.C.A', 'In the Navy' and 'Macho Man'. After the sentence was given, he posted an announcement on his official website, saying that he plans to start writing a book about his hectic life, at the same time with preparing to embark on a music tour, some time next year.
