Blake Fielder-Civil, Amy Winehouse’s ex husband, believes he could have saved her, had he been by her side. Now serving time in jail for burglary, Blake is claiming that it was his absence that killed the British singer. Ironically enough, it was Blake who introduced Amy to heavy drugs and who led her down a path from which she seemed never to recover –
yet did, according to her own father.
Since he learned of Amy’s death, Blake has been at the end of his rope, filled with regret that he was behind bars instead of by Amy’s side, where his place should have been, his father tells
TMZ.
Blake has also been crying endlessly since he found out that his Amy was dead.
“Blake’s dad, Larry Fielder, tells TMZ his son knew better than anyone the depth of Amy’s drug addiction, and had planned to stage an intervention of sorts when he got out of jail – the problem... he’s locked up until March, 2012,” TMZ writes.
Even with that out of the way, there’s a very good chance Blake still couldn’t have helped Amy because of the nature of his relationship with her.
“There’s obviously another issue – Blake and Amy were famously co-dependent junkies and neither seemed capable of helping the other during their marriage,” TMZ explains.
Indeed, during their brief and troubled time together, they were often compared to Sid Vicious and Nancy, with friends saying that they couldn’t be together, just like they couldn’t be apart.
Their relationship was doomed from the start, they say – and from the moment he first gave Amy drugs.
Even so, Blake is brokenhearted and desperate. Reports in the British media even say that he’s been put on a suicide watch, though they’re unconfirmed at this time.
“Larry tells us, shortly after Amy died Blake called him, crying hysterically. Blake’s current girlfriend, Sarah, visited him in jail recently for an hour and all Blake did was cry,” TMZ writes.
As we also
informed you yesterday, it is believed Amy took the necessary steps to ensure Blake wouldn’t get a single penny from her estate in the eventuality of her death, leaving him out of her will.
