Developer Turtle Rock Studios has revealed that the scheduled Xbox One beta for the upcoming shooter Evolve will take place starting January 15.

The beta will be available to anyone who owns an Xbox One home entertainment system and has an active Xbox Live Gold subscription, and a limited technical test will also take place on PC and PlayStation 4.

The open beta will enable gamers to try out the Hunt game mode, where they will be able to choose from the eight different characters revealed so far (Bucket, Lazarus, Griffin, Hyde, Vank, Val, Maggie and Markov) and from the Goliath and Kraken monsters.

Evolve's open beta will also include all the maps that are going to be available in the final game, a number of 12 different locations where gamers will engage in asymmetrical 4v1 battles.

On January 17, Turtle Rock will also add the Evacuation game mode to the open beta, a non-linear campaign that offers a distinct gameplay experience, mixing all maps and game modes.

Players who participate in the beta will be able to carry over their progress to the final version of the full game, so any time spent playing will not be lost, should you decide to purchase it.

Technical test on PC and PS4

The technical test that will be held by the team will be much more limited in scope. On the PlayStation 4 home console, anyone who has previously been invited to Evolve's big alpha test will also be able to join a closed technical test, that will not include the Evacuation game mode, and progress will not be carried over into the full game.

Turtle Rock Studios will start sending out PS4 invites soon, and gamers will be able to join the test on the platform beginning January 16.

The PC version of the technical test will be available to those who have been previously invited to the big alpha test organized by the developer, and owners of Left 4 Dead or BioShock: Infinite (on Steam) will also be able to join the limited technical test.

Users on PC will benefit from the same treatment users on PS4 get, and won't be able to keep any content and characters they unlock. The Evacuation mode will also not be available to them.

All the upcoming tests are scheduled to run until January 19. Evolve's full launch is scheduled for February 10, when it will be available on all three platforms.
