The game is close to the quality that the studio wants

Video game publisher Take Two surprised many gamers when it announced that it would delay its impressive Evolve shooter experience from its original fall launch date into 2015, and the development team at Turtle Rock is now ready to reveal that the game will be offered to players on February 10 of next year.

The platforms on which the cooperative and asymmetric experience will be available remain the Xbox One from Microsoft, the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the PC, with no cross-platform play between the three devices.

On the official forums for Evolve, the developers are saying that they understand why some fans might be a little upset following the news, but they maintain that there’s a very good reason for the delay.

Turtle Rock states, “As we got closer to the October date, we were able to look at where the game was going to be, and compare that to where we all dreamed it would be. In a meeting with the top brass I described it as ‘painfully close.’”

The statement is a little weird given that Evolve was shown during the recent E3 2014 event and plenty of gamers saw it in action and were impressed with the quality of the core game mechanics and with how fun the entire experience was.

Of course, the two companies have only shown a sliver of the full game, and the rest might have some quality problems that require more time to be solved.

Turtle Rock adds, “Fortunately 2K feels the same way and is willing to put extra time into the game so that we can make our dream a reality. That's huge for us, and for the future of Evolve. We want to be proud of every aspect of the game on release day.”

The studio also thanks all those who took part in the official alpha test for Evolve and suggests that a beta stage might be delivered before February 2015 in order to test some other aspects of the experience.

The shooter is based around two sides with very different abilities: a team of human Hunters and a powerful alien monster.

The four gamers need to work together and mix and match their skills in order to track the creature and then take it down, while the lone monster needs to roam around the map and consume lesser animals in order to be able to gain access to more powerful abilities.
