The game's statistics show a balanced nature

Evolve launched two weeks ago, and since then, millions of players have been able to jump into the asymmetrical multiplayer experience and see if it lives up to all the hype and if it actually delivers a balanced experience despite its intentionally mismatched factions.

Competitive multiplayer in gaming has mostly revolved on pitting against each other two parties, or more, of the same size and of equal power. However, in recent years asymmetrical multiplayer has slowly but surely captured the hearts and minds of developers.

Evolve maker Turtle Rock first explored this with Left 4 Dead many years ago, working with Valve to allow four survivors to go up against other players who controlled special zombies in the Versus mode.

Now, the studio is back with Evolve, in which four hunters go up against a single monster.

The game may seem unbalanced but it's been carefully tuned

Given that the hunters wield all sorts of weapons, can heal themselves and track down the monster, you'd think that they're very favored to win a match.

Given that the monster can evolve its abilities, improve its power, and devour wildlife to gain armor, you'd think that it's very favored to win a match.

However, as we saw in the latest infographic offered by Turtle Rock, the win stats are very close. From almost 6 million matches played, 48.1% of them were won by the hunters, while monsters took the 51.9% rest. That, by some margin, is close to perfect balance.

Immediately as Evolve launched, hardcore players were already complaining of overpowered characters, from Cabot the Support, to the Wraith monster, and many more. However, it's always important to bring in the value of the actual player and the skills that they have gained while grinding to unlock the characters.

Both Cabot and Wraith are the final unlocks in their categories, so it's obvious that those with access to them are very skilled. However, give an inexperienced player the Wraith and he won't be able to do all that much, especially against coordinated hunters.

In the end, Evolve is a balanced experience, at least according to the stats, so use our tips shared in this Gamer Diary series to try to gain an advantage.
