Based on the innovative ITSO Sensing technology

Display-solution developers have been doing their best to offer consumer-oriented products with as complex and advanced a multi-touch support as possible. Still, such products always need to satisfy certain pricing conditions, which means that they can never truly outpicture the possibilities of multi-touch input. When pricing is not an issue, however, those possibilities come within reach and can give birth to truly amazing electronics, as Evoluce clearly demonstrates.

Evoluce came up with a 47-inch multi-touch screen known as Evoluce One some time ago. The name itself is not the most innovative, but this became completely irrelevant once the product's capabilities were revealed. The panel actually supported unlimited simultaneous touch inputs, and complex gestures, at Full-HD resolutions. Now, its maker has taken things not one, but several steps further.

The company introduced ITSO, short for Integrated Through Screen Optics technology, which offers “true multi-touch, multi-pen functionality for large flat screen LCDs.” Needless to say, the first thing Evoluce did to please the crowds was implement this new feature into the Evoluce One. The result was a multi-touch, Full-HD panel that “unleashes exciting possibilities for a multitude of collaborative, design, and information visualization environments.” To demonstrate the new functionality, the display maker even released an official video demonstration.

The video clearly shows one or several people interacting with the screen at the same time. What is most intriguing, however, is the in-the-air gesture support up to 1m from the screen. To be more specific, end-users can simply perform hand and finger gestures near the screen, which will be intuitively recognized by the panel itself. There is also the benefit of Windows 7 Support, which gives end-users a familiar interface to work with.

“The range of applications that can benefit from gesture enhancement paired with true multi-pen and multi-touch capability is extremely wide,” Wolfgang Herfurtner, CEO of Evoluce AG, said. “Collaboration, product and industrial design, business intelligence, information visualization, medical imaging, and command and control functions become more accessible without additional complexity. Product information can be delivered directly at the point of sale to customers in a completely new interactive way, revolutionizing shopping, for example. The possibilities are truly mindboggling.”

Evoluce expects the Evoluce One to be used in product presentations, point of sale (POS) applications and interactive exhibits and events. There is no mention of a price, but there is no question that consumers, even the richer ones, will likely find it more or less completely out of reach.
