Evince Document Viewer App Removes Support for SMClient
The first Beta of Evince 3.12 is now available for download
The GNOME Project has released the first Beta version of the forthcoming Evince 3.12 application for the GNOME desktop environment, which allows users to view all kinds of documents.Evince 3.12 Beta 1 removes support for the SMClient service, renames the “Open a Copy” action from the gear menu to “View in New Window,” adds tooltips to the toolbar menus, and introduces a close button for the Search bar.
Moreover, the History buttons are now insensitive when searching the document, the button that activated the Search bar has been moved to the left of the toolbar, next to the navigation buttons, and the window title is now automatically set for empty windows in order to expose it to accessibility.
Among the bugs squashed in this first Beta release of Evince 3.12, we can mention a possible read-after-free issue when using gsettings, and an issue with the “scroll to search result” function that did not work as expected when it was clicked in the find sidebar.
Furthermore, the application now correctly restarts the search operation every time the document is reloaded, makes the Print shortcut to work when the sidebar is focused, uses the g_debug instead function instead of g_printerr when outputting debug warning in the EvDaemon application, fixes and issue the margin of toolbar elements in RTL (Right-to-Left) locales, and updates many translations.
Download Evince 3.12 Beta 1 right now from Softpedia. Keep in mind though that it’s a development release and it should not be installed on production machines, as it is intended for testing purposes only.
