A new development release of Evince, the document viewer application of the modern GNOME desktop environment, was made available to testers worldwide on February 17, 2015, version 3.16.0 Beta 1, which brings a number of new features, improvements, bug fixes, better documentation, as well as updated translations.

Among the new features and improvements implemented in Evince 3.16.0 Beta 1, we can mention that the CTRL+Mouse Wheel zoom functionality is now pointer-centered instead of window-centered and the < CTRL >= and = keybindings are now used for zooming the document in and out.

A couple of bugs have been squashed in Evince 3.16.0 Beta 1, such as printing of landscape documents, printing of documents with autocenter and manual scale, a crash in the recent-view section of the application, which occurred when loading documents that were password protected. Additionally, the “Send to action” function has been disable if the nautilus-send to package cannot be found on the operating system where Evince is running.

The documentation has been improved and translations updated

According to the raw changelog, the documentation component of Evince has received various enhancements, such as the support for page scaling and search filter options, improved printing documentation, as well as updated information about removing annotations.

Last but not least, several translations have been updated in this first Beta release of the forthcoming Evince 3.16.0 software, which will be distributed along with the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment, due for release on March 25, 2015.

Among the new/updated translations, we can mention German, Czech, Hebrew, Slovak, Slovenian, Turkish, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Norwegian Bokmal. Dutch, Estonian, Greek, and Spanish.

You can download Evince 3.16.0 Beta 1 right now via Softpedia. The software is distributed only as a source package. Also, please keep in mind that it is an unstable release and it should not be installed on production machines.
