Meizu has officially released the MX4 Ubuntu edition, and it's now the second company to have an Ubuntu phone in the wild. We take a closer look at this phone to see what some of the most interesting features are.

Meizu Ubuntu MX4 is a high-end phone, and that means it comes with some powerful hardware. The company has already made a name for itself in China, and it's one of the biggest growing companies. Their phones have a good track record for performance and build quality, so it's not really a surprise that Canonical chose to make a deal with this particular company.

It took Meizu a while to release the phone to the public, and it's mainly aimed at developers. For now it's available only in China, but there is a solid promise that it will be also available in Europe as well. There is no indication that US will get this device, but nothing is really set in stone.

Meizu MX4 Ubuntu features an octa-core processor

The size of the screen is no longer an interesting aspect in today's phones, or at least it's no longer the most important. The processor or the camera used is of much more interest. In the case of Meizu MX4 Ubuntu, the phone features a MediaTek 6595 CPU with eight cores (customized by Meizu), and it's actually separated into an A17 2.2GHz processor and an A7 1.7GHz processor. The second one can be activated when necessary.

The screen is a 5.36-inch Sharp/JDI display, with a 1920 x 1152 resolution, a contrast ratio of 1100:1, 500cd/m2, and Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Also, a PowerVR G6200 GPU is being used, 2GB dual-channel LPDDR3 RAM at 933MHz.

As you might expect, it also features 802.11 ac/b/g/n/a Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, BLE support, an ambient, gravity, Hall Effect, infrared, gyroscope, ambient light, and digital compass sensors.

The back camera has 20MP (SONY premium IMX220 Exmor RS sensor), a blue glass filter, and 5-element lens (F2.2). The front camera is a SONY IMX208 2 MP version, with a 4-element lens, blue glass filter, and F2.0 aperture.
