Developer The Chinese Room and Sony have delivered the good news that the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive title Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is finally nearing beta, and have released a brand new trailer to celebrate the occasion.

The deep and immersive adventure game from the makers of Dear Esther and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is scheduled to drop sometime this summer, enabling players to investigate the last days of Yaughton Valley, and to elucidate the mysterious circumstances of the apocalypse.

You will have to uncover the traces of the vanished community members as you trek across a gorgeous countryside, and discover fragments of the events and memories of the townsfolk in order to piece together the unfolding mystery of what happened.

The latest trailer does a pretty good job of setting the tone for the adventure, showing a truly impressive level of visual fidelity and offering us a glimpse of Yaughton Valley, now completely deserted, as well as highlighting what is most likely the main way for players to gain new insight.

The trailer focuses on the tone and story style of the game, showing that it's not going to break the mold established by developer The Chinese Room with its previous games.

Yet another thought-provoking exploration game

The newest post by Creative Director Dan Pinchbeck on the PlayStation blog talks about how the team is "chewing through bugs" and implementing various tweaks to design and to the general flow of the game, trying to put as much polish and finesse into the game as possible.

He touches on the game's music, which he describes as "transforming the experience" of exploring the world, adding a touch of depth and humanity to the entire journey through the wondrous game.

The team will announce a launch date shortly, but expect Everybody's Gone to the Rapture to drop sometime this summer, exclusively on the PlayStation 4 home entertainment system from Sony.
