A new version of Evernote for Android is now available for download, with support for the larger screens that tablet PCs come to the market with, as well as with a series of other new features and enhancements included into the mix.

The development team notes that the new version of the mobile software comes with some of the most requested mobile features, such as the possibility to create notes that include rich text, lists and checkboxes, in addition to bringing a new widget along, and a series of performance enhancements.

The new flavor of Evernote also sports a series of tablet-oriented features that also mark the direction in which the company will take with the future flavors of the application aimed at devices with larger screens.

“A year ago, we launched Evernote for iPad, our first tablet edition. We’ve learned a lot since then, and today we unveil the all new Evernote for Android Tablets,” the company notes.

“The new Evernote for Android Tablets interface demonstrates the direction that we’ll be taking all of our tablet versions in the future.” Evernote's home screen will provide fast access to all that users need, with a new Snippet View to browse through notes, and the possibility to select viewing notebooks, tags, or shared notebooks.

Also, New Note button, Map View and Search buttons were added to the top. To view note options, such as sharing, tagging and viewing the note on a map, users will need to tap and hold a note.

With the New Note button, users will launch a black note, and will be able to choose a notebook and assign tags to the note via the row of buttons at the bottom of the note area.

To search for notes, use the magnifying glass in the top-right corner. It will also offer access to recent or saved searches, and there is also an Advanced Search option to take advantage of.

Users will also benefit from a Single note view, which includes a scrollable sidebar of additional notes, as well as from a Map View to have a look at the place where the note was created.

One new Evernote feature on all Android devices out there is the option to Create rich text, which is one of the most expected improvement this application sports.

“Whenever you create or edit a note on any Android device, you’ll see a new bar above the keyboard. That bar lets you assign a notebook and tags to the note, attach images and files and also style the text,” the development team notes.

“Swipe the bar to show all the text formatting options: bold, italic, underline, bullet list, numbered list, and checkbox. Tap on the option(s) you like, and type away. Lists and checkboxes will continue when you go to the next line.”

The new Evernote for Android also offers users the possibility to edit notes that contain rich text, offering the same experience as when creating a new such note, if the original was created on Android.

In addition to these enhancements, the new flavor of Evernote for Android comes with a new, larger widget, which accompanies the previously available small widget. The new one will provide snippets of recently-accessed notes, as well as the option to access core Evernote features.

At the same time, the new application version comes with a series of performance improvements, aimed at making it much faster than before, at least when it comes to notes syncing and scrolling. The messaging is more informative than before, with the software offers increased overall stability.
