Evernote has just announced that they have acquired Skitch, a popular photo-capturing software initially designed for desktop Macs.

According to Evernote, both co-founders of the business, Cris Pearson and Keith Lang will be joining the company to lead a significantly expanded Skitch team focused on developing the application further.

Skitch is one of most user-friendly applications available on Mac, which is one of the main reasons that Evernote chose to buy the application.

Evernote also stated that plans make the Skitch Mac app more advanced and also bring Skitch to every desktop and mobile platform now available on the market.

Furthermore, the company said that we should expect tighter integration between Evernote and Skitch in the coming month, which will allow users to easily draw, ink, grab screenshots, annotate and share their favorite memories.

We were drawn to Skitch (har har) for one simple reason: we love and use their product with Evernote. For years, one of our most requested feature areas has been related to improved handling of images and annotation capabilities,” said Andrew Sinkov, Vice President, Marketing at Evernote.

More importantly, Evernote has also launched an Android version of Skitch which is already available for download.

The application allows users to annotate, edit and save their photos and scribbles in a fun and easy way.

"Our users take and share millions of photos and screenshots already, but the experience isn’t as good as it could be. We debated about whether to add the improved functionality into Evernote or build a separate app to handle it. Finally, we decided to do both. Thanks to Skitch, we will," concluded Sinkov.

Users can post any annotated photo on Twitter and Facebook and share it with their friends and families.

Skitch for Android is now available as a free download from Android Market and is compatible with devices running Android 1.5 or up.
