Everex's CloudBook Max UMPC Comes With WiMax Connectivity

- The miniature model features a rock-solid hardware configuration

By: Bogdan Botezatu, Hardware Editor

Everex's CloudBook PC has had little attention when it first arrived on the marker, but things seem to be different with the brand new CloudBook Max. Packing a larger, 8.9-inch WVGA display, the device is expected to give
a lot of trouble to the upcoming Eee PC 901 from Asustek.

The upcoming notebook from the green Everex will be powered by a VIA 7-M ULV processor running at 1.6 GHz, coupled with the recently-introduced VIA VX800 digital media IGP chipset. Under the sleek casing, the CloudBook Max packs 2GB of DDR RAM, an 80GB HDD, S-Video out as well as Audio in and out ports.

The connectivity options are also well covered, as the notebook supports Wi-Fi wireless in b and g flavors, Bluetooth and GPS. However, the most important addition is the support for Sprint’s upcoming Xohm WiMAX network.

The WiMax capability is achieved using an integrated single chip Mobile WiMAX solution provided by GCT Semiconductor. The new connectivity options will make the Everex CloudBook Max the ideal tool for both regular computer users and road warriors. Moreover, the sub-1 kilogram notebook is extremely portable, as it's both light and miniature-sized (240×175x27 millimeters).

The two integrated 2-megapixel webcams, the full-sized keyboard and the integrated trackpad are the ideal tools for videoconferencing, instant messaging or remote communication.

Everex is usually manufacturing low-cost, low-performance ultra-mobile PCs that work on an Internet-centric basis. However, the new product in the CloudBook family seems to pack everything but the kitchen sink, and it's hard to believe that such a small notebook can compete in terms of performance with usually more expensive models.

According to its manufacturer, the Everex CloudBook Max can deliver up to four hours of battery life under full load. The device is expected to start shipping within a year, but there is no availability date or pricing information available as of the moment of writing.
