Roger Marion's decision shocks a lot of users

A benchmark for system information software is no longer free. This might not mean much to some, but for avid hardware freaks, this day will go down in infamy? Compare it to the DALLAS episode of 'Who Shot J.R.?'.

Roger Marion, the president and CEO of Lavalys Inc, says on his site that "after 10 years of active development and presence in the freeware market, EVEREST Home Edition (the successor of AIDA32) is being discontinued on December 1, 2005."

Because of the success with the commercial products, Lavasys has decided to focus more of their efforts on supporting their paid customers. But that's not the only bad news for the freeware supporters.

Marion also said, "all online content related to freeware products are removed from our website already. Lavalys will continue to support this product for all users until March 2006, we will not be actively developing any new features or functionality going forward."

But in the fast paced world of business, executive decisions must be made and this was one of them. Between now and January 31st, Lavasys is offering a special discount of 50% for its commercial products (Corporate and Ultimate editions).
