Called HPS 810CP, it is made for both Intel and AMD chips

Central processing unit coolers usually have a very distinctive design compared to any other coolers, but we're just about to show you why the old adage about there always being exceptions is true.

Evercool has just released a new CPU cooler that might be mistaken for a GPU cooler from a distance, and if the box didn't clearly say “CPU Cooler” instead of “VGA Cooler.”

The reason is the shape. Unlike regular cooling modules, the new Evercool product, which happens to be called HPS 810CP, has a dense but flat aluminum fin stack arranged along the plane of the motherboard. That means that it is a lot wider than it is tall.

The Evercool HPS 810CP cooler

Between the fin stack and the fan installed on the top, the product measures 87.5 x 92.3 x 27.4 mm / 3.44 x 3.63 x 1.07 inches.

Not that the fan adds anything to the bulk. The edges of the fin stack are just as tall as it is really, so it's more of a socketed fan so to speak.

Speaking of which, the fan is a pretty small model, at 80 mm in diameter instead of 100 or 120 mm as other coolers like to use.

That means that, to do its job properly, it has to spin more than the alternative. Case in point, the rotary speed is of 1,500 to 4,000 RPM (rotations per minute). On that note, the airflow is of 35 CFM and the noise output goes from 16.2 to 36.5 dBA.

All in all, the cooler works fairly well and doesn't make that much noise. Unfortunately, it's not the strongest in the world either. It's not a good idea to install it on any CPU or APU with a TDP (thermal design power) of over 95W.

You read that right, the newcomer supports both Intel central processors and AMD accelerated processing units. The Intel LGA 1150, AMD AM3+ and AMD FM2+ sockets are on the list.

Every chip will have its heat drawn out by a pair of 6 mm copper heatpipes and dissipated through the aluminum fins, where the air from the fan disperses it. Power is provided through a regular 4-pin connector.

Availability and pricing

Unfortunately, we're not sure what price the Evercool HPS 810CP CPU cooler sports. While the product page has been posted, sure enough, Evercool didn't say where sales are going to happen or for how much. That means you'll have to just check your local suppliers to see if it's there. Assuming you're in the market for the parts of a mini PC or moderate home/business PC, otherwise never mind.
