The developers at Sony Online Entertainment have announced that their long-running MMO EverQuest will make the move to the free-to-play business model on March 16 on all servers.

The date has been chosen to coincide with the 13-year anniversary of the game’s launch and the team stated, “EQ's birthday is always a big event, and this year we combine it with one of the most exciting things to happen in the history of EQ. Mark your calendars and get ready for one huge celebration, with 13th Anniversary events and the transition to Free to Play both coming on March 16!”

The new incarnation of EverQuest will offer three tiers of subscription: free, Silver rank for 5.99 dollars or Euro, and Gold for 14.99 dollars or Euro per month.

Players who choose to continue playing EverQuest will also get an anniversary pack on March 16, celebrating the game and its unique features.
