“Temporarily sold out - more stock is expected” message may be misleading

If anyone had told us this two years ago, or even early last year, we may have been a bit skeptical, but netbooks look like they are ready to disappear.

The latest company to add weight to this expectation is Lenovo, who may cease online sales of netbooks soon.

Reports say that there was even a “temporarily sold out — more stock is expected” message on the webstore.

According to The Verge, Lenovo said it would stop selling netbooks online altogether. That means that, while the S200 and S206 are still set for a June release, the whole low-end laptop phase is at an end.

Ultrabooks will continue being overpriced for most of 2012, but it is only a matter of time before their specs outweigh their price premium. As such, Lenovo's alleged maneuver would arguably be a prudent one.
