Players can stop climbing and look around to get a better sense of the environment

Alien: Isolation will build tension in a variety of ways, including by changing the way players climb ladders, as they can stop and look around if they want to.

Alien: Isolation promises to deliver a survival horror experience later this year, letting players control Amanda Ripley as she explores an abandoned space station that houses an imposing Xenomorph alien.

In order to build that tension, developer Creative Assembly has made some changes to smaller systems, like the ladder climbing one, as players can stop and look around.

“We wanted to try and make climbing ladders a bit more of an experience, so we let you stop and look around. So just by adding that, people start feeling nervous about climbing ladders because they’re like ‘Why are they letting me stop and look around?’ It completely changes how people play,” the studio told XboxAchievements.

Expect to hear much more about Alien: Isolation as we get closer to its late 2014 launch on PC, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, and Xbox One.
