Eva Longoria missed out on Spanglish but got the Desperate Housewives part. And as she looks back she finds destiny rather amusing. Fame and success can depend just as much on not getting one contract as they regularly depend on getting one contract.
Eva Longoria must
thank Paz Vega for her part in Desperate Housewives, because if the Spaniard hadn't won the lead in Spanglish, the Latina would have missed out on the role of a lifetime. And wouldn't make it in the international charts about Hollywood's most wanted women of the moment and on a huge magazine cover in the middle of the Nevada dessert
Longoria and Eva Mendes were competing with Vega for the role. It seemed very fit for each of the three contestants to play the housekeeper Flor Morena in the Adam Sandler movie, which the Spanish actress eventually won.
Longoria is thrilled as she realizes she would have been working on that movie when auditions for Desperate Housewives took place. So no auditions, no part, no desperate housewife, no fame and not so many fans. Lucky girl, miss Longoria.
She says: "I met Eva Mendes on an audition for Spanglish and we both didn't get it, obviously, so when I ran into her a year or two later she said, 'Isn't it funny; if I had gotten Spanglish, I wouldn't have gotten Hitch.'
If I had done Spanglish I wouldn't have done Desperate Housewives and so I believe everything is for a reason and everything is meant to be."
In related news, Longoria is said to be wanted to play Jennifer Lopez's sister in a future to come Hollywood movie.
